Miserere & Regina Caeli

February 24, 2010

My two favourite bits of Church music are like book-ends for Lent. The choir sang the Allegri Miserere on Ash Wednesday, and it was as spine-tingling as ever (you can hear it on the St Clement’s site). And on Easter Day, at the end of the High Mass, they will sing Mascagni’s Regina Caeli. I have never yet managed to stay dry-eyed for this: the soaring “O Signore”s and the mounting tension of the organ are the most wonderful launch of the Easter Season I have ever heard. If you can’t wait till Easter Day to hear it, it is on our site for last Easter Day.

St Clement’s is truly blessed with our Choir and Organists.
